Russia, with the highest literacy rate in the world (99.6%), has become
increasingly popular as a destination of higher studies among
International / Indian students alike due to its internationally
respected standards of education (with European equivalence) and
affordable costs. The last 15-20 years especially have seen the number
of International students coming to the Russian Federation skyrocket and
Indian students are not lagging behind, with thousands of students from
all over India successfully graduating from the more popular
universities every year. India and Russia have been sharing very
friendly relations since before India’s independence. Russia has itself
been a pioneer on the scientific and technological front. In space
studies, the first spacecraft in the world the “Sputnik”, the first
human who went to space being Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. The first
woman in space, Madame Valentina Tereshkova was also Russian. The first
Indian who went to space, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, was sent for
training to Moscow by the Indian government before his departure from
the Russian Space Station.‘Sukhoi’ which ranks amongst the best fighter
aircrafts in the world today, is manufactured in India by means of a
collaboration between Russia and India. The BRAHMOS missile system is
another great success story of cooperation and technological research
between Russia and India.The internationally renowned Engineering
institute IIT Powai, was set up with substantial assistance from the
Russian government in the form of equipment and technical know-how. In
accordance with our bilateral agreements, IIT Powai has received many
experts from leading Russian institutions along with additional
assistance from UNESCO to supplement the program. Scientists and
engineers from prominent government organizations like ISRO and DRDO and
regularly sent by the government for training to the prestigious
Russian research and training institutes. Successful collaboration
between India and Russia in Defense, Nuclear energy, Education and many
other spheres remains a continuous process due to the warm relations
shared by the two countries
